Lance's Furry Friend!
'N Sync's Lance Bass has been making the rounds with a brand new buddy -- a furry little ferret named Dirk. "I saw him and loved him," says the kind-hearted, animal-loving Lance. "I had to take him home with me." Now Lance and Dirk are constant travel buddies -- and it seems like the ferret is completely at home on the road! While 'N Sync was in New York City, Lance treated Dirk to some crunchy Captain Crunch Chicken at Planet Hollywood.
It's Story Time with Lance Bass
Move over, Barney! Lance Bass may give the purple dinosaur some competition. Lance's first job was working at his uncle's bookstore reading to children. The only catch is that the 'N Sync cutie was dressed as a Dalmatian dog named "Poo Fu." Lance recalls, "That's a character I would do years ago. I would dress up like a Dalmatian dog. The kids would pose with Poo Fu and people would come take pictures." And there was even a Poo Fu song that went something like this, 'Poo Fu, Poo Fu, where are you? Please come out and play.'"
Lance On His Freakiest Halloween Fan Experience
"I was at my parents' house and it was Halloween and we were celebrating. A girl came up, and of course they knew my parents' house was there, and I was having a party for my friends that night, and she came up, and of course she [and her friends were] dressed like 'N Sync. She's like, 'Hey are you [Lance's] parents,' and they're like, 'Yeah,' and she said, 'Oh, I'm a huge fan.' She stayed ten minutes and talked to them and left. She came back to the door and was like, 'Well I just wanted to say I'm meeting my friends and we're gonna come to the party tonight, 'cause [my friends] were invited to the party.' And my dad's like, 'Okay.' So she came back crying, saying, 'I'm sorry, we weren't really invited. I have pictures that I wanted ['N Sync] to sign and everything, and I'm just so upset I can't come to the party,' like expecting them to invite her in to the party. I'm like, 'I don't even know you!' That's just a little weird, and manic-y. Things like that happen all the time though."
Nikki DeLoach of Innosense nominates Lance Bass for president: "He's diplomatic, business-minded, and fair. He gets involved in every aspect of his career, and he's honest."
The guys on... Lance
best quality
Chris: "Lance has a huge business mind. He's our sensible one."
most annoying trait
JC: "He enjoys seeing people annoyed."
Joey: "Like, we're going up in an elevator and Lance gets out on a lower floor. When the elevator is about to close for me, he puts his hand between the doors so that they can't close. So I press the button, and he puts his hand in again -- ten times!"
coolest thing he does
Justin: "He throws a good party, man."
Chris: "He took us all to his hometown and showed us Mississippi life at its finest."
how he's most changed
JC: "Lance has changed visually."
Joey: "Yeah, man, he had a bulb-head haircut when we first started!"
JC: "And he's learned a lot about music."
Chris: "When we first met him, Lance was confused. Now, he's managing other artists."
Lance and Paula
While a pre-'N SYNC li'l Lance Bass was learning how to move and groove, a certain gorgeous gal danced her way into his beating heart. The 21-year-old performer reveals, "It was Paula Abdul," the '80s pop star who sang superhits like "Forever Your Girl" and "Straight Up." "She had some fly dance moves." But ultimately, it is a girl's personality that sends this Mississippi native into serious crush mode. "I like an innocent type of girl," he says. "She has to be sweet, not outspoken."
A Touch Of Magic
"When it's 3:33 I'll always make a wish and kiss the ceiling or something like that," says Lance. "I do superstition stuff just for fun."
But, when it comes to Lance's special bracelet, which he's had for two years, he gets serious. A good luck charm that's proven to work is not to be taken lightly, he reasons. "Sugar Hill Gang gave this to me," he says pointing to one of the many silver bracelets on his wrist. "I like the design. I don't know, I feel like it's just a part of me. All my jewelry -- I never take it off, it's been with me so long. I feel like if I didn't have it on me, I wouldn't be Lance. It has to be there."
Lance on Good Friends
I got into a disagreement with the guys today. I consider them my family. We're like brothers, sometimes we fight. But I know we'll all be over it by tomorrow. We can never stay mad at each other. I'm close with all of them. Chris and I get along, because we were roommates. Joey and I are buddies, 'cause we go to nightclubs together. JC is fun to talk to, 'cause he's very intellectual. But Justin and I relate the most because we're so close in age and we come from similar backgrounds. The one thing that I don't like about him, though, is he's so grumpy in the morning. He's not awake until he has his cereal. Trust me, we don't want to talk to him until he's done chewing!
Lance's Movie Mania
"Every year, I always had the Halloween parties at my house, like in junior high and high school. One year, we had a Clue party 'cause it's my favorite mystery movie. All my friends got invitations, like to 'Mrs. Peacock' and other characters, and we re-enacted the entire movie on videotape the whole night. And it went totally like the movie, too. Everybody learned their part and everybody arrived at the same time. It was so awesome!"
'N Sync 'N Love: Lance Bass
His first time
"I was five years old at a football game. It was a homecoming game. I was the homecoming king and I kissed the homecoming queen. Her dad was the coach and my mom was a teacher at the high school."
Falling in love
"Love is something special between you and anyone who feels special to you, somebody very important in your life. It's when you totally know each other. You trust them, you respect them and you'd do anything for them."
The girl of his dreams
Sweet, good-natured girls with strong moral compasses.
Most likely to...
Be the last member of the group to settle down. For now, Lance is all business.
Hollywood Lance (from Rolling Stone, 8/16/01)
One day in Orlando in the recording studio, The Matrix was playing on the television set.
"Jada Pinkett's gonna be bad in Matrix 2," JC said.
"Aren't they filming 3 at the same time?" Lance said.
"Yeah. Man, I'd love to be in that!" JC said, just dreaming.
"How bad do you wanna be in that?" Lance said, seriously.
"No, I wanna be in Star Wars 3. The Jedi War! I'll wear prosthetics and everything!"
"I can make a call," Lance said. The bodyguards' nickname for him is Hollywood. "I know someone."
Slow 'Dance by Liane Bonin (from EW.com, 01/23/01)
'N Syncer Lance Bass hosted his own impressive house party on Saturday night [of the Sundance Festival] to celebrate the launch of his new film production company, Happy Place Films. (He'll reportedly star in the Miramax movie "On the Line," a romance about a guy who falls in love with a mysterious girl he meets on a Chicago train.) Bass surprised his guests by asking Tiffany to perform. "She's a friend of mine, and when I heard her new album, I was just blown away," Bass tells EW.com, noting that the flame haired crooner's set was a hit with the standing room only crowd.
Synch Or Swim (EW.com, 9/26/01)
'N Sync may have to bear the dubious brand of "boy band," but two of its members, Joey Fatone and Lance Bass, are acting pretty manly as far as we're concerned. The two had planned to celebrate their feature debuts in the $10 million romantic comedy "On the Line," scheduled to open Oct. 26, with a mega-premiere at Radio City Music Hall. While plans were scrapped in the wake of the terrorist attacks, the screening, although downscaled slightly, will be staying in Manhattan. "The consensus is it's not fair or appropriate to ask the police department to provide the kind of security [necessary at Radio City] when they've got better things to do," says producer Rich Hull ("Get Over It"), who along with Miramax rallied to keep the fete in New York despite understandable anxiety. The premiere will be held Oct. 9 at the Ziegfeld Theatre.
Lance & Joey's Big Adventure (Teen People, Oct. 2001)
Lance Bass is in his boxers. In a minute, he'll drop his mike and run offstage. No, this isn't an embarrassing concert moment for the 'Nsync star; it's all part of a scene he's shooting for Miramax Films' On The Line, a romantic comedy produced by Lance's company, A Happy Place. In his first movie role, he plays Kevin, a shy guy who launches a citywide search for his dream girl -- played by Emmanuelle Chriqui -- whom he locked eyes with on Chicago's "L" train. While fellow 'Nsyncer Joey Fatone costars and a few surprise cameos may possibly be in store. On The Line is not an "'Nsync move," says Lance, adding, "We want it to stand on its own." If you ask Line's director, Eric Bross, both pop stars have a future in the movie business. "Elvis had this natural quality to him that I think Lance has, and Joey is amazing - he has a wonderful sense of comic timing," says Bross. "I was shocked at their ability. I'd work with either of them again."
Very funny, Lance!
'N Sync's Lance Bass produced his upcoming flick, On The Line, but that didn't stop him from fooling around. One day the poor director, Eric Bross, unknowingly wore a feminine hygiene product on his back -- courtesy of Mr. Bass! You see, to prevent sweat stains while filming on a hot subway train, the film's costumer tucked pantyliners into the armpits of Lance's shirt. When one came loose, Lance couldn't resist "sticking it" to his pal!
Another of Lance's pranks misfired. One night, he tried to sneak up behind his production parter Wendy Thorlakson to scare her, but Lance tripped on the hem of his Dr. Seuss silk pajama bottoms and slid down two flights of stairs! This prankster also has a good heart. When the production moved to Toronto, Lance and the gang rented a house on a lake. Each night, the 'N Sync-er scavenged up all the leftover bread so he could stand on the back porch and feed the ducks and the seagulls.
Palm Reader's Analysis: Patient Risk-Taker
Lance thinks very carefully before acting. This is fortunate for him, because he is inclined to take unnecessary risks. His long little finger gives him the ability to push for what he wants. He is reasonably patient and prepared to work hard to achieve his goals. Lance is loyal to his family and friends and happiest when he's surrounded by the people he loves. He finds it hard to express his inner-most feelings, but this is becoming easier for him.
